Commons motion congratulates Accrington Stanley

08/01/2004

Hyndburn’s MP Greg Pope today tabled a motion in the House of Commons recognising Accrington Stanley’s fantastic achievement in reaching the draw for the Fourth Round of the F.A. Cup. Greg said:

“The whole town is buzzing with the team’s achievements and, like everyone else, I’m very proud of them. The Commons motion is a small way of recognising what they have done and saying congratulations to everyone associated with the club. Let’s hope they can see off Colchester and then look forward to taking on Coventry City.”

The text of the motion reads:

ACCRINGTON STANLEY FOOTBALL CLUB

That this House warmly congratulates Accrington Stanley FC on their achievement on being in the draw for the Fourth Round of the F.A. Cup; notes that they have had to take on three Football League clubs to get this far; wishes them well in their replay against Colchester and looks forward to their eventual return to the Football League, of which Accrington were founder members.
